Honda Catalytic Converters

Emissions controls have always been a mixed blessing–at least to those who care about engine performance. Catalytic converters are great for removing harmful particles and gases from our cars’ exhaust systems, but they’re also notorious for putting a serious drag on performance. Unfortunately (from some perspectives), you’re required by law to have a catalytic converter on your car. Fortunately, there are some options out that that can still give you good performance.

Honda Catalytic Converter Options

If you’re looking to replace the catalytic converter on your Honda, We feature aftermarket models with increased airflow over stock models. There are a few things you have to keep in mind, however, before swapping out your catalytic converter. Federal and state laws strictly regulate the removal and replacement of catalytic converters, so make sure you’re following the law before you make any changes or upgrades.

The first thing to remember is that federal laws prohibit moving a catalytic converter when it is functioning properly. This means that you can’t (legally) remove the stock catalytic converter from your new Honda. In fact, you can only remove and/or replace it under certain specific conditions. The obvious first condition is if the car is actually missing a converter.

If you own an older car, you may be in luck. You can legally replace a converter that is over five years old, and/or if the car has over 50,000 miles on it–but only if the converter has been plugged or damaged. Legally speaking, you’ll need to have the car inspected in order to determine that the converter actually needs to be replaced.
